The only way you could run SQL Server on a Mac was to use a virtual machine such as VirtualBox, Parallels Desktop, VMware Fusion, or Bootcamp running the Windows operating system. Also, Microsoft did not support SQL Server on MAC OS and had no intentions to roll out the MAC variant for SSMS till 2017 version. SSMS is a Windows application and is not even an option if you’re running Linux or MAC OS. Prior to its 2017 release, SQL Server wasn't available for the Mac. In my experience, it was something I need very frequently in my work and so, I chose to understand setting up Docker container, SQL server and Azure Data Studio on a MAC OS. So, after working on Microsoft Technologies for more than 7 years and having seen/read/worked on command line tools like mssql-cli, sql-cli, and sqlcmd or worked on GUIs like SQL Server Data Tools (SSDT) and SQL Server Management Studio (SSMS), what do I think is the perfect use case to understand Docker in a real time scenario.
